Construction on a new $4.5 million, 60-unit hotel will begin in Mid-April. The Cedars Inn & Suites will be built at 601 N Young Street in Kennewick, near the Three Rivers Convention Center.
Paul Sandhu, majority owner of Cedars Inn, said the Seattle-based company has hotels in Yakima, Auburn, Long Beach and Liberty Lake. The new Kennewick hotel is the company’s first new construction property.
Sandhu said the 26,000-square foot hotel will be four stories tall, have an indoor pool and flat screen televisions in all the rooms. Rooms will have granite counter tops and wainscoting. The hotel won’t have a restaurant, but will have common areas where guests can lounge.
The exterior of the hotel will have a rustic look and boast a significant amount of stone. The hotel will employ about a dozen workers and is scheduled to open in February.
Kim Shugart, Tri-Cities Visitor & Convention Bureau vice president of operations, said the new hotel gives the bureau another option to offer convention and event planners who are considering bringing events to the Tri-Cities.
“It’s a great compliment to the existing hotels,” said Shugart. “It will help a lot of the very large city events.”
