The Tri-City Association of Realtors announced May 20th that Susan Dahl of Distinctive Properties, Inc., was “Rookie of the Year 2009” for her success as a Realtor! The Kennewick School District has reached the halfway point on contruction on the new elementary school at Cottonwood Springs and at about the same point in it’s remodeling project on Canyon View Elementary off Olympia Street in Kennewick.
Cottonwood Elementary School has it’s exterior completed, sheet rock is up on the interior walls, classroom cabinets and teacher desks are in place. Currently, planning for new staff and supplies and equipment are in process.
Canyon View has gotten a entire remodel, including a new cafeteria, so the students can eat there rather than in the classroom. Students currently are housed in the old Fruitland School and will be excited to see their new digs at an open house in August for both schools.

The West Richland Area Chamber of Commerce’s annual Hogs and Dogs event is coming up on June 24th at the Bombing Range Sports Complex in West Richland. Over 10,000 people and approximately 4,000 motorcycles attended last year’s event. Admission to the event is $5 and there is a beer garden, live music and motorcycle related vendors. There will also be a raffle for a new Victory motorcycle with tickets being $10 for tickets.

Local summer day camps for kids ages 7-21 with disabilities, is being provided by The Arc. Camp is 10:30 am to 2:30 pm June 22-August 13. Campers can attend one week or all eight weeks and the cost runs between $105 to $275 per week, depending on the support level required. HAPO Community Credit Union donated 70 international calling cards, valued at $1,500 to Washington Operation Thank You. The cards will be given to deployed troops so that they can call their families. Washington Operation Thank You is a non-profit that sends care packaes to troops overseas.
